Job Summary

Develops, establishes and maintains cost effective corporate product stewardship programs that provide appropriate instruction to safely handle and store CITGO intermediates and products for employees, customers, contractors and visitors. Develops, establishes and maintains policies and procedures that implement product stewardship responsibilities including maintaining SDS documents and management systems. Outlines criteria for inspections, training and incident investigations related to product stewardship requirements. Serves as corporate representative to selected professional associations and federal, state and local agencies. Plans and directs work, provides training, facilitates interaction with other work groups, establishes goals and objectives and sets performance criteria.

Minimum Qualifications


  • College degree required (Bachelor's level in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Toxicology, Science or Engineering  related discipline to one of these fields)


Specialized training or unique skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of job related experience (3 years with Master's degree)
  • Must be certified or working on becoming certified in the comprehensive practice of Industrial Hygiene (“CIH”) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (“CSP) or the American Board of Toxicology (“DABT”), able to obtain one or more of these certifications within two years of being named to the position.
  • Must be familiar with DOT (PHMSA and FAA), IATA and IMDG regulatory classifications, naming, marking and labeling conventions. 

Preferred but not required:

  • Masters’ degree
  • Experience with Sphera Solutions software “Intelligent Authoring” (IA)

Job Duties


Position Description:

  1. Provide timely and high-quality product stewardship support, including development and revision of Safety Data Sheets (“SDSs”), to the business units.
  2. Monitor, review, update and enhance corporate product stewardship and hazard communication policies, procedures and standards. Ensure that policies reflect current technology systems and processes.  Champion the development of a product stewardship program throughout CITGO
  3. Maintains product stewardship data including product profiles supplied by business unit, hazard analysis data in conjunction with corporate and facility staff.
  4. Determine the impact of changing regulatory requirements on CITGO’s business by analyzing requirements and advising affected business units.   Work with business units as necessary to ensure that each has appropriate plans in place to meet product stewardship and hazard communication regulatory requirements.
  5. Assures that product stewardship services are available, including maintaining SDS authoring software, without disruption of business applications, equipment or business partner relations.
  6. Provide support to business units in product stewardship litigation. Develop responses to interrogatories and serve as fact witness related to product stewardship responsibilities.  
  7. Provide emergency response support including serving as an on-call manager and responding to component information requests related to medical emergencies
  8. Serve as corporate technical representative on product stewardship matters. Manage outsourced toxicological evaluations.
