Job Summary

 

CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter, and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products. The company is owned by CITGO Holding, Inc., an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. CITGO has more than 3,400 employees, a combined aggregate crude oil refining capacity of 749,000 bpd and 48 owned and/or operated petroleum product terminals, which position us as one of the largest most complex independent refiners in the U.S.

 

The Buyer Intern provides procurement support for the Lake Charles office requirements in accordance with company procedures and strategic goals while under the direct supervisor’s guidance. Assists or performs the following duties; places purchase orders; selects and negotiates with approved vendors and evaluates vendor reliability; obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost, with consideration to quality, reliability and urgency of need; schedules deliveries and follows up on orders to expedite delivery and shipment; obtains certifications of delivery and approves payment invoices for orders placed. Maintains records and files as needed. Performs basic analytical tasks and industry research.

 

Positions are available for Summer and Fall 2018. Job Duties: 1. Source and create purchase orders for items in accordance with established company policies and procedures. Purchase Orders to be reviewed and released by Purchasing Agents. 2. Observe negotiations with vendors conducted by Purchasing Agents. 3. Assist Purchasing Agents in the bid and evaluation process. 4. Serve as liaison between Procurement and Accounting resolving invoice issues. 5. Assist Purchasing Agents by reviewing terms, conditions and pricing. 6. Maintain contract files for audit purposes as well as historical activity data to assist in business decisions 7. Perform routine and repetitive duties independently and according to the established procedures and practices. 8. Perform more complex assignments with direct guidance from supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

*College Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level in Business, Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Marketing
*Overall GPA of 3.0 (Must provide proof of current GPA at time of hire to verify eligibility requirements are met)
*Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Internet
*Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor
*Incumbents will be required to communicate effectively with all levels in the Corporation
*Authority to transact to implement strategy will be dependent on level of experience and demonstrated results
*Must be able to work in a team environment and possess excellent customer service skills

*Work hours:  30-40 hours/week(will work around class schedule); Full-time in Summer

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
 
*Valid Driver's License

*The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.  Candidates selected for employment must meet eligibility criteria to obtain a TWIC card.
