Responsible for providing value-added proactive legal services primarily in the areas of employee benefits and other employment legal matters and handling increasingly complex legal employment matters and projects, including conducting legal research, participating in negotiations, drafting increasingly complex legal documents, drafting and reviewing contracts, and handling a variety of litigation, claims, regulatory, corporate, employee related matters and legal transactions. Provides advice and guidance to less experienced attorneys and supports senior attorneys of the Company. May functionally supervise administrative staff. Develop and maintain professional and good working relationships with Legal Department and business client personnel. (collectively, “Employee Legal Services”) Persons employed in this job are expected to perform other legal service functions not enumerated herein but nonetheless related to Employee Legal Services commensurate with skill level and years of experience as an attorney.

1. Provide advice and counsel related to Employee Legal Services, including labor and employment matters, ERISA, worker’s compensation, and benefits matters for CITGO Petroleum.
2. Manage assigned litigation, including but not limited to, employment benefits, employment claims, traditional labor, and workers’ compensation; coordinate with counsel for insurance carriers and coordinate among principal outside law firms handling CITGO’s labor and employment litigation. Participate in legal strategies, review pleadings and briefs, may attend depositions, mediations, hearings, arbitrations, trials, and recommend settlements.
