The primary function of this position is to provide input and support on the development and implementation of the Department’s system of information that provides an objective and independent view of business results, financial and operational, as well as a future view via forecasting and risk monitoring methodologies.
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for developing, analyzing, and evaluating tactics and leading to optimize purchases/sales/trades of crude oils and feedstock for the CITGO refining system. The incumbent must have strong analytical and conceptualization skills, initiative, strong sense of opportunity and value capture, as well as communicational and people skills as he/she strives to provide practical analysis and recommendations derived from the integration of knowledge from several sources of data and information, namely (1) deep understanding of relevant markets, market dynamics and benchmarks, (2) clear understanding of the operational and planned reality of CITGO’s facilities, (3) understanding of internal/external refinery economics, and (4) understanding of freight markets and logistics costs.
For this purpose, this position will support the development of a complete set of Key Performance Indicators and Performance Metrics to produce Profitability and Predictive Analyses, and present scenarios to capture opportunities from the Market, optimize profits, gain internal efficiencies, clear gaps and mitigate risks, and ensure alignment with CITGO business strategies. The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for the process to reconcile commodity and transportation price estimates with the actual costs to determine if any variations exist between estimated and actual costs. Research significant variations when identified related to the crude and feedstock purchasing decisions, which could result in revising processes to be more efficient.
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible to develop methodologies to produce forward curves of physical hydrocarbon commodities to estimate the future price of a given physical product as well as arbitrage opportunities; establish Mark-to-Market MTM), daily P&L and YTD P&L of all physical positions, as well as Value-at-Risk (VaR) positions on transactions and inventories that provide an estimation of the amount at risk with a given probability. Perform in-depth fundamental supply and demand analysis around the key markets impacting CITGO's profitability. Analyze key market drivers and establish knowledge-capture and data-tracking systems around those market factors which impact profitability and performance. Research, evaluate, and consolidate activities to enhance alignment with market points of view regarding crude oil, feedstock, Industrial Products, Refined Products and other commodities like natural gas, when appropriate.
The Senior Business Analyst supervises a group of Business Analysts and will perform periodic assessments and continuous monitoring, standardization and validation of information processes and products produced by the Business Analysts and systems of information.
