The Chemist Intern/Co-Op will work under the direction of the Laboratory Manager to develop technical laboratory skills and integrate classroom studies with practical work experience. In the initial co-op term, students will complete assigned special projects in various laboratory areas. During the second and third terms, students will be assigned more challenging projects and may be responsible for monitoring specific laboratory areas. All students are required to provide a presentation on their assigned projects at end of each term. The Co-Op program is designed to alternate co-op terms and school semesters, providing selected students an opportunity to return for multiple terms as they progress through their academic program.

 

Job Duties: 

  • Work on Co-op term projects at the direction of supervisor
  • Support daily activities of the assigned laboratory area
  • Actively participate in safety/environmental programs
  • Maintain intern work/activity journal

 

Positions available for 2024 - Summer, and Fall. Flexible co-op terms are available; however, alternating co-op semesters are not guaranteed and are conditional upon individual performance and position availability within the hiring department.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field with at least 30 hours completed (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior)
  • Overall 3.0 GPA (Proof of current GPA required at time of hire)
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid TWIC Card 

 

TWIC Eligibility Requirements: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.
